About the Role
We are looking for experienced General Merchants / Category Heads to lead national-level sourcing and merchandising activities, including international markets (e.g., China). The role will be responsible for driving business growth, vendor management, and category performance across multiple product lines.
Categories to be Handled
The General Merchant will manage one or more of the following categories:
- Footwear
- Travel Accessories
- Home Furnishing
- Clothing & Apparels
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end merchandising for assigned categories at a national level.
- Handle global and domestic sourcing, including international markets such as China.
- Develop and manage vendor relationships to ensure best quality, cost, and delivery.
- Plan assortments, range building, and pricing strategies aligned with brand objectives.
- Monitor sales performance, margins, and inventory levels.
- Coordinate with planning, sourcing, quality, logistics, and retail teams.
- Ensure timely product development, sampling, and production follow-ups.
- Track market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
- Maintain compliance with quality standards and company policies.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of merchandising and sourcing at a national / international level.
- Experience in handling large-scale vendor negotiations.
- Good understanding of costing, margins, and inventory planning.
- Ability to manage multiple categories and large product volumes.
- Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
Qualification & Experience
- Graduate / Postgraduate in Fashion, Textile, Retail Management, or related field.
- 8–15 years of experience in merchandising or category management.
- Exposure to international sourcing (China experience preferred).
- Experience in retail, B&M, or value retail formats will be an added advantage.
